Yes, in the summer months we often have a black bear or two that safely visit in the quiet of the early mornings and evenings.  (In 2005 we had a black bear sow and three cubs that were regular visitors.)  They enjoy feasting on the plump wild blueberries growing thickly under the Spruce Trees.  An acre+ of blueberries is hard to resist!

We have other wild creatures who visit during the summer.   A variety of birds, from the tiny jeweled hummingbird to the majestic bald eagle, stop by Bears Run.  On the neighboring natural pond, wild ducks raise their young.   Porcupine and marmot also visit the grounds, and occasionally Sitka Black Tail deer.

Within a half-mile walk, nearby streams in the Tongass National Forest are home to otters and muskrats.  Salmon also run these streams to their spawning grounds.

A little quiet and patience will give you a glimpse of these wild creatures in their natural habitat.  (Don't forget your camera!)
